The price gap between renting and buying just hit the widest point
    since 2000, new analysis shows

Renting is a far cheaper and smarter option for many Americans today
in the face of high homeownership costs, according to a new analysis
by the real-estate technology platform Cadre

With mortgage rates over 7% and elevated home prices, as well as
intense competition among buyers over a low number of home listings,
many renters hoping to buy a house are finding it too expensive.

They used to say, ``Under socialism, you will own nothing and be happy.''

Turns out, under capitalism we ended up owning nothing anyway, and being miserable.

I suspect the "haves not" herd has increased in last twenty years.

    During Covid Era, too many landlords jacked up their rents;
traditionally, rent is based upon a dwelling's appraised value, but
I'm not aware of why those landlords jacked up their rents.

I suspect appraisers' software may factor in current building costs,
which might explain why appraised values increased during Covid Era.

I can only wonder if those who produce this software have skewed some
factors so that higher appraised values is the end result.
City/County/etc officials would not object when more revenue is the
end result. I have no idea if this software industry is monitored and
    checked for bullshit appraised values.
