• The Beatles announce their final ever song

From JAB@21:1/5 to All on Thu Oct 26 19:19:37 2023
The Beatles will release their "final ever" song at 1am next Friday,
Australian time, over 43 years after the passing of singer and the
    song's writer John Lennon.

The song, called Now and Then, was originally a demo that Lennon
    recorded in the late 1970s.

Now, with the help of AI, it is a fully-fledged recording featuring contributions from Lennon's songwriting partner Paul McCartney,
drummer Ringo Starr, and guitarist George Harrison, who died in 2001.

You'd think Paul McCartney, Ringo and Yoko were rich enough already! I
can't see any other reason for this apart from $$/££...

Will hold further judgement until I've heard the song. I liked the
Beatles so I hope it does them justice.

With all that software, it isn't the Beatles is it, just AI, autotune, Photoshop, and somebody trying to cash in on the name.

    This isn't the Beatles, it's ...

Yeah, it wasn't unknown. The song (Now & Then) was originally a John
Lennon demo from 1979, it was just vocals/piano... it's that vocal track
that has been de-mixed from that demo tape and used for the others to do
    their overdubs on.

But basically, it is just a cash-in.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AW55J2zE3N4

    Nov 2, 2023 #TheBeatles #NowAndThen #JohnLennon

Now and Then's eventful journey to fruition took place over five
decades and is the product of conversations and collaborations between
the four Beatles that go on to this day.

The long mythologised John Lennon demo was first worked on in February
1995 by Paul, George and Ringo as part of The Beatles Anthology
project but it remained unfinished, partly because of the impossible technological challenges involved in working with the vocal John had
recorded on tape in the 1970s.

For years it looked like the song could never be completed. But in
2022 there was a stroke of serendipity. A software system developed by
Peter Jackson and his team, used throughout the production of the
documentary series Get Back, finally opened the way for the uncoupling
of John's vocal from his piano part.

As a result, the original recording could be brought to life and
worked on anew with contributions from all four Beatles. This
remarkable story of musical archaeology reflects The Beatles' endless
creative curiosity and shared fascination with technology. It marks
the completion of the last recording that John, Paul and George and
Ringo will get to make together and celebrates the legacy of the
foremost and most influential band in popular music history.

The long mythologised John Lennon demo

That demo song available to fans on cassette, and it was crap. If Lennon thought "Now & Then" was any good he would have developed the song beyond
the demo for inclusion on his "Double Fantasy" album ... although I
accept had he lived he could well have returned to it at some stage if he
liked it enough. George Harrison also called the song "fucking rubbish"
in 1995 and gave up working on it.

This new "Beatles" version is just meh to be honest and even though I
love The Beatles I can see that this is nothing more than a money-grab
    release.

I hope it does well for them all though, they must need the $/£ so I
wouldn't like to see them starve in their old age... the Blue/Red Album
remixes are interesting, but "Now & Then" is not a song to set the world alight...

The title doesn't bode well for it being anything other than trite.
Will be fun to see modern musicians remixing the f*ck out of it, though.

It's got everyone talking about The Beatles again though so from a PR
point of view I suppose that is a positive... and of course, Apple Corps
have three new records to sell. So, win-win!
