Taiwan voters dismiss China warnings and hand ruling party a historic
    third consecutive presidential win

Taiwan's ruling Democratic Progressive Party pulled off a historic
third consecutive presidential victory on Saturday as voters shrugged
off warnings by China that their re-election would increase the risk
    of conflict.

    I am very
happy and proud of the people of Taiwan for choosing democracy over dictatorship. Taiwan has shown the world that it is a sovereign and
independent nation, not a part of China. Taiwan has the right to
determine its own future, without any interference or intimidation
from Beijing. Taiwan’s success in handling the pandemic, developing
its economy, and protecting its freedom and human rights is an
inspiration to all who value democracy. Taiwan deserves international recognition and support, especially from its allies in the region and
the world. Taiwan is not alone, and we will always stand with Taiwan.
    ùü

Taiwan’s independence is not only a matter of national dignity, but
also a matter of survival. China has never renounced the use of force
to annex Taiwan, and has been increasing its military and diplomatic
pressure on the island. China has also been spreading misinformation
and propaganda to undermine Taiwan’s democracy and sovereignty. Taiwan
cannot afford to compromise or appease China, as that would only
embolden its aggression and endanger its security. Taiwan must defend
its sovereignty and democracy at all costs, and resist any attempts by
China to interfere in its internal affairs. Taiwan must also seek more international support and cooperation, and join the global community
as a full and equal member. Taiwan’s independence is not a
    provocation, but a necessity. ùü

Taiwan’s independence is also a matter of justice and morality. Taiwan
has a distinct history, culture, and identity from China, and has
never been ruled by the communist regime. Taiwan has suffered enough
from China’s oppression and violence, especially during the White
Terror era, when thousands of Taiwanese were killed or imprisoned for
their political views. Taiwan has also contributed greatly to the
world, especially in the fields of technology, health, and
humanitarian aid. Taiwan deserves respect and appreciation, not
threats and isolation. Taiwan’s independence is not a challenge, but a
    right. ùü

Taiwan is a beacon of democracy and a model for the world. Taiwan is
not China, and never will be. Taiwan is Taiwan, and always will be.
