Streaming services make billions off of advertising revenue yearly.
According to a recent report from Digital TV Research, it predicted
that streaming services will have earned $6 billion from ad-supported subscriptions in 2023 and could make even $20 billion from these
    services in 2029.

I cancelled my Prime Video subscription once I finished "Reacher" S2
    for that very reason.

I pirate everything so won't be affected by this. I would strongly
encourage everyone who isn't already doing so, to do it.

In addition, the excellent software yt-dlp allows me to download, without
ads, everything I want from youtube and numerous other streaming sites to
watch at home whenever I want to.

I would like to see a movement away from renting towards owning. I often
joke with my students that when the internet dies, I'll happily continue
to watch my movies (downloaded and on dvd) and listen to my music (mp3:s
and lps) and read my books, while their entire media consumption stops,
since they do not own it.

But since everything usually works quite well, they never experience the difference between owning music and renting it indefinitely.

Siddhartha Gautama might suggest eliminating these desires.
