According to figures released Tuesday by the government's INDEC
statistics agency, Argentina's monthly inflation slowed down to 13.2%
in February, compared to 20.6% in January and 25.5% in December. On a
yearly basis, however, inflation remains the highest in three decades,
    topping 276.2% in February.

A self-described anarcho-capitalist, Milei assumed power in December
and almost immediately announced a series of shock measures, including
a 50% devaluation of the nation's currency in hopes of eventually
bringing the country's roaring inflation under control.

It ain't over, until inflation is over:-)

50% devaluation of the nation's currency

Which means imported products soar in price.

His popularity depends on them going up.

Too many leaders have applied austerity instead of currency stabilization--often under pressure from the financial community. In
Nigeria, Egypt, Ethiopia, Haiti, Argentina and many other poor
countries, financiers and central bankers profit from devaluations
    even as poverty worsens.

Do note how the mainstream press tries to dismiss him. If you watched the
video he let go 50k public employees and closed down the ministries of
gender, environment, culture and many other.

He's like a dream come true!

Could you imagine a leader like that in any western country? He would be
shot on sight by some socialist extremist and the press would never allow
such a lover of freedom to rule.

Let's pray for our champion Trump, that he can do something similar in the
    US!

He's like a dream come true!

Show-time politicians are nothing new under the sun. I would like to
think the opinion in WSJ above speaks the truth.
    ================

Steve Hanke, professor of applied economics at Johns Hopkins
University, described the move as a "kick the can down the road type
    of operation."

"They don't need to buy any time, if they dollarized the economy and
got rid of the central bank - something that Milei promised during his campaign, the thing would be fixed. And it is feasible to do that, and
I think it is totally desirable," Hanke told CNBC's "Squawk Box Asia"
    on Thursday.
    ...
    ...
"We wouldn't be talking about this, and they wouldn't have defaulted
over and over again if they would have dollarized way back in 1999.
But at any rate, it looks like Milei has put the dollarization thing
on the shelf and I think that will end Milei. This is a fatal
    mistake," Hanke said.

I agree with Hanke, but the problem is that Milei is being fought by the political class who's very livelihoods are at stake. He cannot, as far as
I know, as president just abolish the central bank. There are many checks
and balances which work against him. So yes, he does what he can, right
now, and the goal is to abolish the currency and go dollar.

Politicians tend to follow the success path, which generally means
    using appeasement theatrics.

But those who contribute to their campaign want/expect a return on
    their investment.

True, and in his case it would be the non-political class.
