• Bosses are firing Gen Z grads

Bosses are firing Gen Z grads just months after hiring them--here's
what they say needs to change

After complaining that Gen Z grads are difficult to work with for the
best part of two years, bosses are no longer all talk, no action--now
they're rapidly firing young workers who aren't up to scratch just
    months after hiring them.

According to a new report, six in 10 employers say they have already
sacked some of the Gen Z workers they hired fresh out of college
    earlier this year.
    ...
    ...
Meanwhile, one in seven bosses have admitted that they may avoid
    hiring them altogether next year.

This is the truth! I have done the same. After 3 warnings, a gen z still
was not able to show up to meetings, both internal and customer meetings.
After hearing excuses from sickness, power outtage, internet outtage, that
he forgot a meeting, etc. I kicked him out.

When doing that, I told him that the best advice I could give him for his future career was to actually respect dead lines, show up to meetings, and actually show up to work. If he could do those things, I promised him that
his next job would be much longer lasting than the one he had.

Due to this reason, I also avoid gen z when hiring, but go more on peer recommendations, and since they are all quite a few years away from gen z,
I naturally have very little to do with that generation.

I'm not ruling it out though, and am always open to being positively
surprised, but it very seldom happens. If it does happen, I do try to help
by recommending them to acquaintances who are hiring at the moment.

I can't address this topic, and have no idea what rules/regulations
are at play when hiring in various countries/states.

That said, if a company stated what it expected of an employee, this
    might reduce this issue.

A checklist of expected behavior, in other words, would be handed to
    this person before being hired.

This is the truth! I spoke with the chairman of a company I consulted for,
and we both came to this conclusion. We also both thought it weird, that
20 years ago such simple things as

    * being on time
    * taking care of personal hygiene
    * doing what you promise to do
    etc.

where expected and there never was a need to train or list those things.
Today, with the young, these things much be taught.

In my case, actually going to meetings was communicated and he had several warnings which he ignored. In that case my hands are clean! ;)
