I'm the Canadian who was detained by Ice for two weeks. It felt like I
had been kidnapped
I was stuck in a freezing cell without explanation despite eventually
having lawyers and media attention. Yet, compared with others, I was
lucky
To put things into perspective: I had a Canadian passport, lawyers, resources, media attention, friends, family and even politicians
advocating for me...Imagine what this system is like for every other
person in there
...
here was no explanation, no warning. One minute, I was in an
immigration office talking to an officer about my work visa, which had
been approved months before and allowed me, a Canadian, to work in the
US. The next, I was told to put my hands against the wall, and patted
down like a criminal before being sent to an Ice detention center
without the chance to talk to a lawyer.

but when I did travel to the US, stories like the above would
always go through my head when I was entering the country.

With the "Alien Enemies Act", even US citizens could be exported
without due process, if ICE did not evaluate each person.
When in Europe, I was without these thoughts, but if I traveled to
Mexico again, I'd be concerned with the cartels/gangs

Really?!
Is there any kind of statistics for how often they check laptops?

Really?! That's absurd! I mean it is one thing to treat other citizens
like this, but your own citizens?

The T-Borg is very upset that a judge has put on hold the "Alien
Enemies Act". Well of course, if those being deported had to be
confirmed (due process) in court, this would slow down the process.
With the "Alien Enemies Act" and nobody verifying each potential
person to be deported, then the ICE mice can play, and the T-Borg can
say "look at what I have done."
As stated before, news accounts suggest ICE has deported persons not associated with that gang.

'Deported because of his tattoos': has the US targeted Venezuelans for
their body art?
US claims tattoos prove membership of Tren de Aragua gang but
relatives describe tributes to God, family and Real Madrid

It can. Gang tattoos are a thing.

US immigration officials have reportedly identified many recently
deported Venezuelans as gang members primarily based on their tattoos.
This development comes despite experts stating that Tren de Aragua
does not use specific tattoos as identifiers, unlike other gangs such
as MS-13.
