One of these imbeciles needs to own up and take responsibility for his
own actions. Go choke on a bag of dicks, Elon. The hatred was earned.

How did America become a nation of perpetual victims? Everyone, all
    the time. Sad.

Returning to this thread to point out the large number of pieces that
suddenly appeared in major news outlets describing his genius, his
big-picture thinking, (etc) and referencing how hard it was in WashDC
    for him, etc.

None is worth even reading. Obvious paid, puff-pieces placed by his PR
firm to recast him as a misunderstood tech genius, and get Americans to
    forget the rest of it.

Screw American media for being so easily bought. Once you know how to
spot the paid pieces, you see them everywhere. No wonder no one trusts
the mainstream press anymore, they sold out and no longer deserve the
    trust.

    describing his genius

I would describe him as an investor, who had a large fistful of
dollars to spend. Those employed did all of the grunt work.

Rocket science was well known, and at first, he wanted Russia to send
one up. Then he beancounted the cost vs creating his company to do
    it.

Translation - Cash flow issue....any new model, like the killed Model
2 requires $$$ for adapting assembly line, etc., etc.

Tesla bought newer assembly line equipment, and most likely with loan repayments. The same for that German based plant.

I don't follow Tesla, but I suspect Tesla is not doing so well these days....and his CFO might be doing some creative accounting.

Tesla's latest twelve-month capital expenditure (as of March 2025) is
    $10.057 billion.
    https://finbox.com/NASDAQGS:TSLA/explorer/capex/

"Capital expenditures are purchases made by a company and capitalized
on a balance sheet rather than being fully expensed at the time of
purchase. Assets that are capitalized can be accounted for over their
    useful lifetime and depreciated."

No, there's quite a bit of press about this.

The Tesla was originally priced as a luxury model. It's steadily moving down-market and competing (poorly) against lower-cost cars. Everywhere
except America you can buy better quality Chinese-made luxury EVs at
lower prices. He's being forced to compete and isn't prepared for it.

Jul 24, 2024 -- BYD has said it has no plans to sell vehicles such as
its Tesla-styled Han EV sedan in the states. https://www.capitalone.com/cars/learn/finding-the-right-car/can-i-buy-a-byd-car-in-the-united-states/3408

So, apparently, Tesla believes not enough sales for US model only, but
will produce self-driving robotaxis...on same framework. A robotaxis
would be scaled back to the basics.
    ==================================

Tesla has canceled the long-promised inexpensive car that investors
have been counting on to drive its growth into a mass-market
automaker, according to three sources familiar with the matter and
    company messages seen by Reuters.

The automaker will continue developing self-driving robotaxis on the
same small-vehicle platform, the sources said.
    ...
    ...
The stark reversal comes as Tesla faces fierce competition globally
from Chinese electric-vehicle makers flooding the market with cars
priced as low as $10,000. The plan for driverless robotaxis, which
could take longer to deliver, presents a stiffer engineering challenge
    and more regulatory risk.

Two sources said they learned of Tesla's decision to scrap the Model 2
in a meeting attended by scores of employees, with one of them saying
the gathering happened in late February.

"Elon's directive is to go all in on robotaxi," that person said

No, there's quite a bit of press about this.

He plans to do self-driving robotaxis, and most likely a limited
production run....with just enough passenger features. Doing the
Model 2 would require sourcing other parts. On a different note, GM
for instance makes few parts, so alot of contracting for this/that is
required. Point here, cash flow is required to make it so, and a
    company must predict future sales.

I suspect this below is the reason for not producing the Model 2.

"Jeff Bezos has invested in Slate Auto, a company that is developing a no-frills, affordable electric pickup truck called the Slate Truck.
This truck is being developed for a low price point, and its base
model is expected to cost around $20,000"

Jeff Bezos backs radical $20,000 small electric pickup truck

Newly announced Slate Truck could revolutionize the EV industry by
    making it more affordable
    ...
    ...
However, at the same time, it offers a range of customization options,
allowing buyers to transform it into a five-seat SUV.
