The former prime minister of Israel Ehud Olmert has said Israel is
committing war crimes in Gaza, and that “thousands of innocent
Palestinians are being killed, as well as many Israeli soldiers”.
Olmert, who was the 12th prime minister of Israel from 2006 to 2009,
wrote in an opinion piece for the Israeli newspaper and website Haaretz
that “the government of Israel is currently waging a war without
purpose, without goals or clear planning and with no chances of
success”. He added: “Never since its establishment has the state of Israel waged such a war … The criminal gang headed by Benjamin Netanyahu has set a precedent without equal in Israel’s history in this area, to

Those are pretty strong words, and more powerful coming from a former
leader. I'm afraid future generations and future books will look back
on what's happening now and have terrible things to say about us for
letting it happen. And the Americans stepped back and focused on
antisemitism, of all things, interpreted as any criticism whatsoever of
    Israel. Awful.

Parenthetically, I'm remembering at the beginning when Hamas had run
through and taken hostages etc. and some were saying Hamas must have an incredible game plan ... turns out, no plan at all. Their hostage run
turned into the total annihilation of Gaza and genocide (ongoing) of
    its people.

Simplistic reasoning that was based upon outcomes from previous
    skirmishes.

Rather foolish to agitate a foe with a bigger military response.

At any time Hamas could have raised a white flag....other nations
would have done so....long before Gaza became rubble...but "defeat" is
    not an option for Hamas.

Talk about throwing a rock at a hornet's nest. Netanyahu and Co. seem
to have just been itching for an opportunity to do something like this.

Not only that, they still have a f*ing hostage! They are morons. I
pity the Palestinian people, but am 100% supportive of crushing Hamas
like a cockroach. The Palestinians deserve better than these shitheads responsible for their current plight.

When the end result is considered, I suspect they let it happen.

    AI Overview

Yes, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Israeli intelligence agencies
had obtained information and plans outlining Hamas's intentions to
launch a large-scale attack, including a document codenamed "Jericho
Wall" that detailed the planned invasion

However, this intelligence was misinterpreted and ultimately not acted
upon, leading to the devastating October 7, 2023 attack
