• An LAPD helicopter claimed

From JAB@21:1/5 to All on Tue Jun 10 21:12:29 2025
An LAPD helicopter claimed to have ID'ed protesters from above and
threatened to "come to your house."

The threat was greeted with extreme concern by civil liberties and
digital privacy groups. It suggests the LAPD could be using facial
recognition to identify and retaliate against protesters.

If that's the case, I have no problem with it.

I highly doubt facial recognition is possible via helicopter

Claimed....like everyone has a California state ID card...LEOs have
used BS before...."Danno" is not going to knock on their door.

Unless they are looking up (or at the helicopter), I'd say a fat

    100 km away
The latest demonstration of this strategy is an experimental China
facial recognition able to identify faces up to 100 km away, an
impressive feat from a technical point of view, but one that raises
serious concerns about privacy and espionage. https://en.clickpetroleoegas.com.br/China%27s-new-facial-recognition-technology-impresses-by-identifying-faces-even-from-100-km-away-vml97/

    That's easy, it's the cops.

Helicopter with a Stingray or whatever cellphone intercept device cops
use these days could probably fish a bunch of people. Hard to pin down
which ones are which unless they are actively streaming from the phone
at the time of the intercept.

Drone aerial surveillance to track vehicles, then ID via ground
observation has been done before. Not sure how helpful that would be
    here.

In 2013, an article on "Zimmermann's Law" quoted Phil Zimmermann as
saying "The natural flow of technology tends to move in the
direction of making surveillance easier", and "the ability of
computers to track us doubles every eighteen months", in
    reference to Moore's law.
