138-year-old grocery store staple files for bankruptcy

Del Monte Foods, the 138-year-old company best known for its canned
fruits and vegetables, has filed for bankruptcy and is looking for a
    buyer.
    ...
He said that the company has "faced challenges intensified by a
dynamic macroeconomic environment," notably consumers cutting back on
their spending and a growing shift toward spending on private labels.
    ...
Del Monte got its start in 1886 and built its famous cannery in San
Francisco in 1907. The company claims that it operated the largest
fruit and vegetable cannery in the world by 1909.

Well, the can of ground coffee I usually buy just went from $8.99 to
$19. Thanks, idiot tariffs. I don't mind though, because I know we
are protecting the vast ecosystem of American coffee growers ... oh
    wait.

Closer to home for Del Monte, the ICE actions are starting to impact
food harvesting in the US, which will only lead to higher prices and
    fewer options.

Meat packing plants are also under strain, so maybe Hormel will be next.

Quite a few in Midwestern states...I'm not aware of Kristi Noem
sending the ICE troops to those states...

In time, Karmic retribution will be in their face....hopefully, in the
next election...with those eliminated from Medicaid/etc voting.

45% of crews vanish: ICE raids bring California's food system to a
    halt

For California's $59 billion agricultural economy, the consequences of
ICE raids on produce farms could be severe. Roughly 70% of the state's
nearly one million farmworkers are undocumented, forming the backbone
of a system that depends on labor few others are willing to do. These
workers pick delicate, labor-intensive crops, such as strawberries and
lettuce, which machines can't easily harvest. When immigration raids
disrupt these communities, the cracks spread beyond the fields:
packing plants run at half capacity, transportation slows, and even
local restaurants and repair shops see business dry up.

When government spending supports projects (roads, green energy, etc),
there is a long term return on these investments, including increases
in tax revenue. There is nothing wrong with Uncle Sam investing in
business projects that advances the nation's interest, but this is not happening now.

With ICE spending, only select companies profit. Employers who hired
them will take a hit, and consumers who buy products via those
employers will most likely pay more for their products. ICE's actions
also will decrease the total federal/state tax revenue streams.

Economically, a cause/effect relationship with US suffering.
