    Hello,

What are good long reliable selfie sticks for iPhones (11 Pro Max and
    newer)?

I see most of the newer ones have battery RCs, but their battery lives
are short. The old wired cables one worked well without needing
batteries. The best one, broken cable or maybe tiny circuit board died?,
was from Monopod. It has no batteries and use cable to the 3.5mm audio
cable with an adapter to iPhones' lightning port.

Thank you for reading and hopefully answering soon.

You don't see many Lightning selfie sticks because of the royalty cost
of MFi——a Bluetooth remote is cheaper.

In the olden days you had wired selfie sticks that used the headphone
jack to trigger the camera but of course those days are long gone. I
doubt if a headphone jack selfie stick would work with a Lightning to
    headphone jack adapter.

There have been some Lightning selfie sticks in the past, but I have not
seen one in years. Aliexpress shows one but it is discontinued <https://www.aliexpress.us/item/2251832602187211.html>.

Newer selfie sticks for later iPhones now are MagSafe compatible so
there's no clamping mechanism necessary, i.e. <https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BNQSMTVJ>, but these are pretty new so they
    aren't cheap.

A 2032 coin cell lasts years in the remote of a selfie stick and they
cost very little——my local variety store just upped the price to $1.75
    for two 2032 batteries.

Another issue is that you really want to minimize the number of removal/insertions of Lightning plugs into the phone. As we've seen just
in this group, failure of the Lightning connector is not uncommon and
it's expensive to replace. That's one reason that wireless charging is advisable, even though it is slower than wired charging.

    no, that's not why.

the main reason is that it is cross-platform and also allows for more
    mounting options.

In the olden days you had wired selfie sticks that used the headphone
jack to trigger the camera but of course those days are long gone.

because wireless is a much better method than dealing with cables.

    very much false.

lightning is rated at 10k insertions, the same as usb-c.

if you're going to claim lightning is fragile, then usb-c is equally
    fragile.

additionally, any reports in this group is an invalid sample size out
of the more than 1 *billion* devices with lightning (not to mention
    that self-reporting is itself flawed).

lightning is designed so that the *cable* fails first, which is very
cheap to replace. actual damage to the lightning connector is rare,
although it does happen on occasion.

that's very different than usb-c, which has a fragile tab inside the
socket, which can easily be bent. that means *any* damage will result
    in a costly repair.

That's one reason that wireless charging is
advisable, even though it is slower than wired charging.

    no, that's not a reason.

$26 isn't that bad for a new one with bundled tripod. If it is really
good, then that's fine. Hmm MagSafe. That means the case will have to be removed. Also, this would be easy to fall off at a great height and

Years? Hours from previous selfie sticks with their RC batteries. :(

The one I have has an on/off switch in addition to the shutter release
button. I think that some lower-end selfie sticks don't let you
    completely shut off the Bluetooth.

This is the remote that came with my selfie stick <https://www.walmart.com/ip/seort/188925566>. It works with both iOS and Android devices and the description states: "Built-in button battery
with a capacity of 200mah can take 5000-8000 photos." These remotes use
so little power that it's not worth building a rechargeable model.

You used to be able to buy CR2032 battery eliminators that you could
power from a 3 volt supply. But this is pretty ridiculous for this usage
    case.

Battery technology is nowhere near as exact as you seem to think. No two batteries perform exactly the same. Due to fluctuations in the mass
production manufacturing process and differences in usage including environmental factors and usage patterns, some batteries age faster than others. That's life!

1 yr is a conservative estimate from Apple.

I replaced 2 after ~1.5 years and have 2 going on 2 years come May.

I guess it depends on how often they get pinged.
