• With "Wi-Fi Calling on This iPhone" enabled and iPhone isn't connected

    Hello,

With "Wi-Fi Calling on This iPhone" enabled and iPhone isn't connected
to wifi, phone calls don't work on cell? Is this normal? Or should it
still work on cell even if not connected a wifi?

Thank you for reading and hopefully answering soon.

it should work on cellular, assuming there's a signal.

if you're in a cellular dead zone and there's no wifi, then you're not
going to be making very many calls, or much else.

Certainly! Wifi-calling is only a fallback.

    Should have three settings

    No wifi calling (only cellular)
    Only wifi calling (no cellular)
Both wifi calling and cellular calling

Earlier tonight, it (also SMSes) didn't want to work at all. I tried
rebooting iPhone, disabling and enabling wifi, airplane, iOS v16.4.1's settings' cellular's wi-fi calling, etc. :(

If the cellular network is ok you have a deeper rooted issue.
    Consider a factory reset.

Isn't the whole point of wifi calling is to use wifi Internet like on
cable that never uses cellular connections?

No. Wifi-Calling is a fall back technology to bridge low field strengths
in (larger) buildings *for phone calls*. It is not either or.

It is not necessarily using the landline. Some Wifis are connected to
the public mobile network. Cellular should always work. Even when you
make a Wifi-phonecall iMsgs and e-mail will be sent to your iPhone via cellnetwork and not via Wifi. As the name says: *Wifi-calling*. Not more
    and not less.
