• How many of you had your iPhones' genuine batteries swell up?

From Ant@21:1/5 to All on Mon Oct 30 00:24:33 2023
    Just curious.

How many of you had your iPhones' genuine batteries swell up? I had
three since I noticed them (a 4S [original battery] and two 6 Pluses'
second genuine batteries from 5/1/2018) yesterday. :O

Thank you for reading and hopefully answering. :)

How old were each of the batteries? A lot of batteries will
swell up when they get real old.

Both 6+s' 2nd genuine battieres were installed on 5/1/2018 in a local Apple store. 4S was original from 2012.

None. My first iphone was an original SE which I still have and it's fine.
Must be 6-7 years old now.

    Currently on my third iphone.

In the household we've gone another three and none of them swelled either. We've never had to replace batteries, though.

The old device I've had with a swollen battery was an old MBP in the days
when they had removable batteries. I removed and it still runs fine on
    mains only power.

I'm curious as to the odds of that happening to one person. How do you
abuse these things so much that this may happen?

In this house alone, over the years we've had about 8 iPhones. Battery swelling has never happened. Only 1 battery was ever replaced (by Apple).

In my wide entourage of friends, employees, colleagues, clients and acquaintances, I've never heard anyone mentioning such.

How can you even tell if you could look? Don't Apple use genuine
batteries? This was during the $29 offers from its batterygate. :/

I wonder if apple contracted for some el cheapo batteries for
their "batterygate" replacements, knowing they would last at
least as long as the warranty.

It's also possible that you got two batteries that just
happened to be faulty. Statistics allows for that, but it is
    low probability.

Also I don't know how apple stores operate, but in most chain
store operations, it's possible to have a particular one that
    isn't stellar.

Have you approached the store where you had these batteries
    installed?

Thank you for reading and hopefully answering. :)

How old were each of the batteries? A lot of batteries will
swell up when they get real old.

Both 6+s' 2nd genuine battieres were installed on 5/1/2018 in a local Apple store. 4S was original from 2012.

Surprising that the batteries from 2018 swelled up already.

Maybe they switched to second rate batteries, since you likely
    didn't watch them install.

I wonder if there had been any public reports of this.

Also I don't know how apple stores operate, but in most chain
store operations, it's possible to have a particular one that
    isn't stellar.

Have you approached the store where you had these batteries
    installed?

Nope. I haven't been there since 2018. I remember now. It was a farther
store because the closer stores didn't have any batteries.

Not if they sat unused for a long duration of time, it isn't.

Define unused. I rarely used them, but almost daily.

That makes no sense. Rarely is no where near the same as daily. A long
unused period is something like a couple of months.

Well, I use them for a few minutes per day (almost daily).

It's strange that this one store had batteries while the others
couldn't get them. It could be circumstantial though.

I use them rarely daily to check weather, security cameras, view and

    original battery life sucked.

How old are the batteries in each of them?

That was in 2016, seven years ago.
