• M4 moves Apple Silicon from ARMv8 to ARM v9.4

From Alan Browne@21:1/5 to All on Thu May 23 14:12:28 2024
A little tidbit has surfaced about the core architecture in Apple's M4 processor.

With the addition of SME2 support, the cores would have had to jump up
in the ARM catalog. Code compiled with SME2 will jump in performance.

The jump in core types was detected by a programmer using code that
would crash (or at least fail to deliver results) unless the v9
    architecture was in use.
