Apple is making iPhone 14 Pro Always-On display work like Android in
    iOS 16.2

iOS 16.2 includes a major change for the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14
Pro Max’s new always-on display. After complaints from some users, iOS
16.2 beta 3 includes a new option that allows users to disable
wallpaper and notifications from appearing on the iPhone’s always-on
    display.

Oh no, nospam is going to have a fit that Apple copied Android again.

actually it could already do that, but the setting was somewhat hidden.

I have a 14 Pro and the annoyance for me is that it isn't "always on" at
night and so my plan to use it as a bedside clock doesn't really work.
Maybe these changes will allow it to be really "always on" as a choice.

No. Just do not disturb at night

that's now focus, and you can set all black there. that wasn't too
obvious, which is why they changed it.

Thanks. I know that's focus. And I'm happy for notifications to come
in quietly to the lock screen. It's that the lock screen goes
completely blank/black in the dark after a random time - sometimes
minutes, sometimes more. Maybe it thinks it's in my pocket, or
something? I do know that with Do Not Disturb still on in the early
morning when it begins to be light, the lock screen stays on, but on;y
after I have tapped it to get it to reemerge.

it will go dark if it thinks nobody can see it, such as in a pocket or
it's face down, if you haven't used it in a while, or you're not near
    it anymore.

I get that. But at night, on my night stand, I want it to stay on and
not be so clever. There could be an option for that.

i'm not sure why it isn't. people wanted an option for the opposite, so
that it could go dark and just show the time. that option was actually
there, except it was not obvious (in sleep focus). now it's easier.

I think I haven't been clear. The whole display goes off. Not just the notifications. So, therefore, at night, the display does not even show
the time. If I then touch the display, it will come on at the low
level, but only remain on for a few or sometimes many minutes.
