in itunes/music (depending on which one you're using), go to the view
menu, select view options and add either or both of those to what's
shown (and add/remove any others as needed), then click the sort menu
at the top of the view options panel and choose what to sort by as well
as either ascending or descending. this can later be changed without
using view options by clicking the column headers directly or via the
sort by menu item in the view menu. do this for as many playlists as
needed. once all of the playlists are in the desired order, sync to the
    iphone.

I have an iPhone X running iOS 16.3. Before I upgraded to iOS 16, I
was able to sort songs in a playlist based on when they were
added/purchased. I can no longer do that. The "Sort By" menu shows
    only the following options:

    - Playlist Order
    - Title
    - Artist
    - Album
    - Release Date

    were added/purchased?

Please note that I am able to sort songs under 'Library > Songs' based
on when they were added (not purchased), but I'm asking specifically
    about playlists.

    Okay, that worked. Thanks.
