We all knew this was coming. QuickBooks Desktop will no longer be sold
to new subscribers after September 30, 2024.

Services requiring Internet access used through QuickBooks like bank
feeds and payroll will still work through the end of their three-year
cycle. The main QuickBooks bookkeeping features without Internet access
    will work indefinitely.

I didn't upgrade on the three-year cycle. I use the payroll feature
manually, entering tax rates myself, and I live without the bank feeds. However, links to help pages don't work, so I usually find the help text
on the Intuit Web site. I assume all these Help pages will be taken
    down.

I won't use QuickBooks on line; it's an entirely different product. I
have real concerns about privacy of my books, and the idea of
subscriptio software to maintain access to critical files is unwelcome.

Am I the last Desktop user?

I'm also using GnuCash but it would take a big effort to make it work
    for nonprofit books.

Years ago, there was a programming team being paid to develop
bookkeeping software for the nonprofit industry. Alas the project was abandoned.

fwiw, on a used computer I just bought, with Windows 11, I was able to
install QuickBooks 2016. Intuit's desktop version download page is still available. I was able to register the application.

Some of the Windows features with regard to printing to PDF had to be
enabled, which QuickBooks relies upon for reports. Once I did that,
QuickBooks worked. Updates were still available, and the same Critical
Fixes update is repeatedly offered without being installed, same problem
I had on the Windows 8.1 machine.

Obviously I didn't try to purchase a desktop version license so I can't
tell you if that truly did end, but this alleviates my concern about
whether it's possible to install a verion with an existing license on
    another computer.

    . . .
