SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA — A male motorcyclist was killed after colliding
with a semi-truck midday Friday on the eastbound SR-74 Ortega Highway, according to California Highway Patrol.
Traffic was reduced to one lane in the area, and officers and Orange
County Fire Authority firefighters were at the scene to assist.
Shortly after 10:45 a.m., a motorcyclist was witnessed colliding with the tractor-trailer truck at the SR-74 Ortega Highway, just west of Nichols
Road, according to CHP.
Dispatch operators said the motorcycle burst into flame in the roadway,
and there was no visual on the rider. Firefighters arrived at the scene by
11 a.m. to find a male motorcyclist had perished, OCFA Capt. Than Nguyen confirmed with Patch.
"Everything was contained mostly within the westbound lanes, and OCFA Firefighters were assisting with one-way traffic control through the
area," CHP said. CHP Capistrano officers confirmed with Patch that one-way traffic control will be in place until the road is reopened later in the
day.
