From Roberto CORRADO@21:1/5 to All on Mon Mar 17 20:41:55 2025
    Hi *,
I apologize maybe i already made a mistake, Italian usenet user's after my invitation ask me to create a new hierarchy: usenet.*.
So I sent the control message to create the group usenet.discussion.ai.general, but I was contacted for information and clarifications about this possibly maybe not appreciate action.
I'am here to request a voting about the creation of hierarchy usenet.*

    cheers

It is beyond absurd to name any newsgroups into a top-level hierarchy
    called usenet.*. Please rethink this.

There is no voting. Anybody can declare himself hierarchy administrator,
which is what you've done by sending newgroup messages, but just because
you can doesn't mean you should.

Why do you want a new hierarchy?
Isn't it.* usable in your case?

If you want one: You need to contact ISC, so they will place the
control messages on the FTP server.

I also apologize if we got something wrong conceptually. Our idea
was to create a "celebratory" hierarchy to relaunch the use of
usenet in Italy. Many newsgroups in the "It.* " hierarchy are
practically empty, in the sense that there are no more people
    posting.
So I proposed to Corrado Roberto the launch of the "Usenet.*"
hierarchy with a few newsgroups dedicated to topics of particular
interest, or to users particularly active in the Italian
community who write many posts and make the Italian , "surviving"
    community lively.
The hierarchy, to be created, also wanted to try to go beyond the
Italian one, and include non-Italian users as well, this with the
clear purpose of revitalizing an increasingly small
    community.
So we thought a celebratory and inclusive name, and it seemed like
a good idea to launch a hierarchy called "Usenet.*"

is not better to actually start getting some of the it. newsgroup active
and make a list of "active" groups and post those all around the
internet where possible users go? we are doing this with es.*
we did create a small internal hearchy hispagatos.* but this is mainly
only in our server for our users and some friendly nodes with people who
likes to particupate but our focus is to revive es.* and some regular
alt.* and comp.lang.* etc since they are already there I create a list
and post it on mastodon/fediverse gemini/gopher/matrix etc etc and this
way we have captive around 100-200 people (not much but considering it
    was 0 is something)

    just thinking out loud..

    Happy Hacking

A Usenet top level hierarchy named "usenet" seems to be a tautology.
It would also be out of scope for the Big8 management board.

Hi Ray Banana, maybe we "have" gone too far egocentrism...
Thank you all for participating in this discussion, maybe I should have >thought about it earlier that this hierarchy was out of my reach.
But if you would like to add the group only, me and my "friends"
    would be happy with that.

I'm sure there's already a comp.* or alt.* group in which AI might be discussed. AI may be discussed in a miscellaneous group or general group
on a broader computer topic. Use an existing newsgroup that's already
widely created, even if there's negligible on topic discussion in it.
Then your friends will have a place to talk.

There's going to be extreme resistance among many News administrators to
your declared usenet.* top-level hierarchy and your control messages
will not be acted upon at most sites. Please rethink this.
