• web access to newsgroups

always best to use a dedicated newsreader for connecting with nntp servers,
but rocksolid works great for web access to newsgroups, with "show headers" checkbox for article reference . . . for the past couple of weeks noticing
more links to "novabbs.com" appearing in usenet newsgroup citations (since google announced their planned closure of google2news this coming february)

news server admins in other newsgroups (e.g., news.admin.net-abuse.usenet news.admin.peering, news.software.nntp, alt.free.newsservers, alt.privacy. anon-server) have discussed many topics related to usenet servers, mostly
too technical for the layman and retired hobbyist (little old me included)
to be concerned with, but also talking about whether the googlegroups.com usenet archive could be made available on account of its historical value,
or even rebuilt from scratch such as dejanews had started off the project?
    thus a read-only (no posting), fully-searchable, web-based usenet archive
might be feasible, but even if it were would it be worth that much effort?
it's a complex issue, but the availability of free newsservers that allow posting are what made usenet popular to begin with, and with googlegroups
being shuttered more users will be looking for servers that allow posting

The German word "Kaufmann" is somebody who trades or is a businessman otherwise.
That terms is also relevant because people who are "Kaufmann" need to
follow certain laws like Handelsgesetzbuch which others don't.

in a movie that i like, an Israeli spy assumes the identity of a man named
(Hans Hoffmann) --- so i kinda figured that the surname
    Hoffmann must be typically non-Jewish.

Americanized form of German Kaufmann , and a variant of the same Jewish surname. Jewish (Ashkenazic): from the personal name Kaufman meaning 'merchant'.

i remember that in this story, the main character had the surname Kaufmann

Message to Adolf (アドルフに告ぐ, Adorufu ni Tsugu), known in earlier English versions as Adolf, is a manga series made by Osamu Tezuka. The story is set before, during, and after World War II and is centered on three men with
the name Adolf. Adolf Kamil is an Ashkenazi Jew living in Japan. His best friend Adolf Kaufmann is of both Japanese and German descent. The third Adolf is Adolf Hitler, the dictator of Germany.
