• running INN from source in non standard directory

So I am running INN from a directory /news The prefix for the install is
/news. When ever I try to start the server or reload it I get a error
saying. No INN.pid file did server die? How would I start or run this
from a directory wear everything is self contained in a single directory?

    Does the /news/tmp directory exist?
Is /news/tmp the value of the pathtmp parameter in inn.conf?
Are the rights correctly set for allowing the news user and the news
    group to write to /news/tmp?
