We're pleased to announce the release of m2usenet v1.0.0, a privacy-focused Usenet posting gateway system with enhanced security and automatic fallback capabilities.
## What's New in v1.0.0
- **Rebranded from mail2news to m2usenet** - Complete software rebrand
- **Gateway-only architecture** - Simplified posting method via mail2news gateways
- **Automatic fallback system** - Seamless switching between .onion and clearnet
- **Enhanced privacy** - No data collection, anonymized logging
- **Improved security** - Updated authentication headers and TLS configuration
## Gateway Configuration
Primary Gateway (via Tor):
mail2news@xilb7y4kj6u6qfo45o3yk2kilfv54ffukzei3puonuqlncy7cn2afwyd.onion
Fallback Gateway (clearnet):
mail2news@mail2news.tcpreset.net
The system automatically attempts .onion gateway first for maximum privacy, then falls back to clearnet gateway if needed to ensure reliable delivery.
## Authentication Features
- Hashcash Proof-of-Work tokens (configurable difficulty 24-32 bits)
- Ed25519 digital signatures for message integrity
- Anti-replay protection with token database
- RFC-compliant Usenet header generation
## Technical Details
- Frontend: PHP web interface with JavaScript PoW mining
- Backend: Go binary for mail2news processing and NNTP delivery
- Transport: Tor SOCKS5 proxy for .onion connectivity
- Headers: X-Hashcash and X-Ed25519-* authentication
All posts include proper authentication headers and are routed through privacy-focused infrastructure.
