No suggestion of turbulence as the cause of the trouble, just a
    “technical failure” <https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/nz-passenger-on-latam-flight-saw-man-with-blood-streaming-down-his-face/EXGL5PBCD5E2NBIUDFQZ76MYSQ/>.

Looks like another in the long string of ongoing quality-control
    failures at Boeing ...

You jump to conclusions pretty fast. Most likely the first officer
turning off the ignition switch by mistake.

The pilot says, quite openly in response to a question from a
passenger, that the instrument panel went blank for a second, and the
    aircraft dropped <https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/travel/2024/03/latam-flight-lack-of-specific-detail-surrounding-technical-glitch-on-sydney-auckland-flight-unusual-aviation-expert.html>.

The report speculated that it was some kind of ”autopilot” problem.
But I’m thinking, in these modern, totally computer-controlled
aircraft, the “autopilot” is no longer some physically separate box
you can kick, it is simply another operating mode of the same
    flight-control software.
