  • Zealandia Is Old

From Lawrence D'Oliveiro@21:1/5 to All on Sun Mar 17 03:50:29 2024
It used to be thought that Zealandia was a young continent, but now
zircons have been found dating back 3.6 billion years -- about as old
as any known rocks on the surface of the Earth, if I recall rightly <https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/new-zealand-could-be-billions-of-years-older-than-first-thought-geologists-say/TN2G5WLL2ZCOFFEYSFYUTVGJF4/>.

For comparison, multicellular life has only been around for little
    over half a billion years.

This is another case of where the major school of thought said NZ is not old but with some evidence it is old, just that most of the contient is
    submerged below the sea.
