I didn’t know Mandela and his colleague Oliver Tambo were lawyers in
the first black-run law firm in the country.
I didn’t know that a place called “Sophiatown” even existed. It was a “freehold” area where the races could mix freely. Of course the
Apartheid government couldn’t allow that to continue. So it was
demolished.
The “morality” laws were so strict, a white photographer couldn’t even take photos of a black woman out in public.
