I was there this morning, and saw the new signage on the long-empty
    former Nawton Countdown <https://www.1news.co.nz/2024/04/27/new-hamilton-supermarket-could-be-a-game-changer/>.
    It’s apparently opening next weekend.

You got to give the owners credit for persevering in spite of all the
issues around crime against retailers. I hope this pays off for them.

Seems like the Commerce Commission’s pressure on the supermarkets has
been paying off. You may remember Sue Chetwin, who was head of
Consumer NZ before Jon Duffy took over. Now she’s with the Grocery
    Action Group.

That's great news for that area, and good to see a new Operator
entering the market. It has now been a while since the supermarkets
were required to remove anti-competitive land covenants; there is a
blank site next to the Countdown supermarket in Newtown that had such
a covenant removed - it would be good to see two supermarkets
    competing next to each other.
