• NZ Resuming UNRWA Payments

From Lawrence D'Oliveiro@21:1/5 to All on Sun Jun 9 02:09:04 2024
A little item tucked away in the news in the last day or two mentioned
that NZ will go back to giving money to the UN agency for Palestinian
    refugees.

If you remember, a bunch of countries froze their payments when Israel put
out accusations that some UNRWA staff were involved in the October 7
attacks on Israel. Of course, the publication of those accusations was
nicely timed to draw attention away from the initial decision from the International Court of Justice regarding the charges of genocide that
    Israel is facing there.

And not only that, but those accusations have never been backed up with
any actual evidence. Various independent organizations have been waiting
to see such evidence, so they can conduct proper investigations, but there
    has been nothing.

So, gradually, one by one, various countries have been resuming their
payments to UNRWA. And it took long enough, but NZ has joined in, too. But
    not the US.

Furthermore, US lawmakers still want to go ahead and pass a law making
their UNRWA ban permanent. Why? Who knows. Triumph of ideology over facts? Perish the thought ...

So the UK is doing it now, as well.

This leaves the US essentially isolated.
