I stopped reading this at the first sentence. I have not ever found
anyone who advocates for 'an all wind and solar powered future'. That
sentence is an extravagant claim to make and an article that starts
out with such a nonsensical statement is not likely to have anything
    worthy to say.

Now I will make clear my overall view on Climate Change - if excessive
CO2 emissions are a problem it is created (and must be addressed) by
all Northern Hemisphere countries. While NZ can and should take
measures to mitigate it, those measures should be easily affordable
with little economic impact on our economy.

I persevered, there are plenty of facts that support the author's views. I have certainly heard/read people advocating for only wind and solar including here in the past.
I have not seen any scientific evidence that CO2 emissions are a cause for concern but agree that we should not damage our economy for something that is not proven to be a risk.

The Green energy revolution has many aspects(topics) and any one article can only attend to one aspect. All the others have to be set aside if one is
going to address the "main" point of the article. In my view the authour was not saying that Green energy would come from solar and wind alone, and I
think very few people would admit to this when pushed.

The article was about solar and wind generation cost. Both in $ terms and in environmental cost. These points need to be made so that they are in the publics mind when the green debates take place.

I have read that the supply of copper at the existing price is at the limit. Any greater demand will have the price soaring and mines opening long term.

Lithium is also in "short" supply if we all go battery electric cars.

Finally, do not transmission lines use aluminium?
