I may not agree totally with this but there is one part that resonates with me. Aotearoa is not the official name of this country, whatever anybody says.
I would welcome a referendum on the name of this country and have no dislike of the word aotearoa, but it is not Sky's business to push it, or any broadcaster frankly.

I agree that the countries name in New Zealand and nothing else but
since Jabcinder and her lot came to power along with Tea Maori
Party that the name Aotearoa along with Maori city place names are
being push ahead of English names.

A referendum was never held for the name change but I sure if there
was one now the left media have done such a good brainwash job on
people that Aotearoa would fly thru.

I can't see a problem - are you seeking to limit free speech? Aotearoa
is a word from the Maori language, which is one of the Official
Languages of New Zealand. Its meaning has been given as 'long white
cloud" or similar - hardly objectionable as being offensive. It is
included in our National Anthem "God Defend New Zealand" - what is it
that you object to, Tony? Why are you seeking to reduce our freedom to
speak? Personally I don't often use the word, but I think it would be
wrong to try to ban it; and a referendum would be a gross waste of
    tax-payer money.

What part do you not agree with, Tony?
    Irrelevant and childish.

It was a simple question. I cannot read your mind Tony. You said I may
not totally agree with this . . . - have you made up your mind on that
    point, Tony?

Don't be silly Rich? One often qualifies one statements. One is supposed to >take this into account. Happens every day for most people.
Not for Rich, he is incapable of qualification (too subtle for him), only stupidity.

I can't see a problem - are you seeking to limit free speech?
Don't be offensive. It is you that wants to do that.
Of course I don't. You appear to be wanting to stop me using the word
    Aotearoa.

The objection is when and where the word Aotearoa is used. This orginal >article was about Sky using Aotearoa instead of NZ in an official event.

From my observations it is only the media who are pushing this. How often >does one hear Aotearoa on the streets of in the pub/cafe?

I can honestly say that I and everyone I know never refer to the
country we live in as Aotearoa. Most often the words used are "this
    country" or "New Zealand".

    Aotearoa
is a word from the Maori language, which is one of the Official >>>>Languages of New Zealand. Do you have any evidence that the rest of New Zealand thinks or wants
in relation to the use of the word Aotearoa? I don't object to it
being used - I believe it is not offensive to the vast majority of New
Zealanders, it is used in official documents and in our National
Anthem, and it is not offensive. Why are you trying to restrict free
    speech, Tony?

You are correct Tony. I don't care what words our PMs use - either
current or past. I have no interest in the Maori language - this or
any other week. Rich seems to be often confused as to who he is
answering in his posts. He also seems to be confused about how many

I guess that is the real problem, when you think of New Zealanders,
you do not include Maori . . . There does seem to be a lot of that
    around.

I guess that is the real problem, when you think of New Zealanders,
you do not include Maori . . . There does seem to be a lot of that

What crap Rich, There was never a referendum to change the countries
name only your last lot giving the media millions to promote theirs
and the Maori Parties policies of changing the countries name and
all English NZ place names to Maori ones and we can see the media's
social engineering every day with Maori first names and English
    second.

There does not need to be a referendum to change the countries name -
the name in English is New Zealand; but Maori is another Official
Language of New Zealand and therefore the use of the name Aotearoa is
often used with no offence to the vast majority of the population -
from my observations being either thin skinned far Right wannabe
    nutters or intolerant racists.

This orginal
article was about Sky using Aotearoa instead of NZ in an official event.

From my observations it is only the media who are pushing this. How often
does one hear Aotearoa on the streets of in the pub/cafe?

I can honestly say that I and everyone I know never refer to the >>>>>>>>country we live in as Aotearoa. Most often the words used are "this >>>>>>>>country" or "New Zealand".

I have heard the current and past Prime Ministers using the word, both >>>>>>>within New Zealand and when traveling to other countries. It is >>>>>>>possible that they move in different circles to you, Gordon. And this >>>>>>>week is Maori Language week - you may hear that word, and a few other >>>>>>>Maori words, a little more often this week; if so however I doubt that >>>>>>>Karl du Fresne or this group will have influenced that at all.
    Who are you talking to?
And you are, in any case, deliberately missing the point.

You are correct Tony. I don't care what words our PMs use - either >>>>>current or past. I have no interest in the Maori language - this or >>>>>any other week. Rich seems to be often confused as to who he is >>>>>answering in his posts. He also seems to be confused about how many >>>>>of us are interested in Maori language. This country that we call >>>>>home is New Zealand.
I couldn't agree more. This is New Zealand and official occasions demand that
the country be addressed that way. Any change requires a referendum, no >>>>government has the right to make such a change without one.
You are confused again, Tony. There is no law that requires the
country to be addressed in any particular way, or that people only use >>>words in the English language. Are you saying that Chris Luxon was
wrong to refer to our Country as Aotearoa? Equally there is no >>>requirement for you to use anything but the words you know and are >>>comfortable with. Comprendre?
No confusion. just good mannners. Something that is beyond your understanding.
I used the word Official, but you ignored that.
We are New Zealand, we are nothing else. Fact. Period.

What crap. This is one issue where Chris Luxon has followed the
practice of previous Prime Ministers and used the word Aotearoa as a >legitimate and authorised name for our country where appropriate in
the performance of official duties - you are having another
    brain-fart, Tony.

What crap Rich, There was never a referendum to change the countries
name only your last lot giving the media millions to promote theirs
and the Maori Parties policies of changing the countries name and
all English NZ place names to Maori ones and we can see the media's
social engineering every day with Maori first names and English
    second.
