They have no business sense at all - losing $800 million is just the
start - through delaying fixing the problem there is now talk of them
not being able to afford proper rail connections - so engines will
need a new engineering centre for regular servicing in the South
Island . . . Then the big kicker - delaying the spending just
leaves us open to more costs though inflation . . .
Wrong. You can spin it anyway you like but they are addressiing the 3 billion dollar hole the last government gleefully generated.

I am not spinning anything - the National Business Review says:
"Govt nearly $800m in the red over cancelled interisland ferries"

Nothing to do with the previous government - you are yet again going
    off topic, Tony.

Not at all. The previous government stuffed this up and this government needs to fix it. That is how simple it is and how on topic it is, see?

And according to the National Business Review that 'fix' is going to
cost us $800 million, and still leave us with a worse link between the
two islands with smaller ships than were previously ordered . . .
800 million is much better than the 3 billion it would have cost if the last government's idiotic plan had not been cancelled. Just a good business decision versus incompetence.
There is no way you can know if it will be worse, that would take knowledge and intelligence - nuf said!

Wrong. Wrong, just not up with the play.
Political trolling without knowing the real situation. As usual.

Thanks greybeard - yes I had not kept up with the changing situation
regarding the Hillside workshops - in 2012 the National-led government
sold part of the business, but I had not picked up that in 2019 the
Labour -led government decided to update the workshops instead - that
does not change the desirability of avoiding having to unload wagons
to a ferry then load again onto wagons on the other side, but we still
do not know what ships will be purchased - the $800 million loss is
before having to pay for new ships in a higher-priced market than when
the previous government ordered them. Whether they need to ship
engines is still not clear - if they are retaining maintenance
facilities in the North Island as well that may not be needed.

So you don't know anything of value in this debate. Right ho then.
