Yep - good news, but then we have not had much good news for the last
16 months. . . and certainly the track we are on may be the "Right"
track, but that only suits a small minority of the population.
Our GDP is still down 1.1% for the year, with tourism and dairy
delivering more than expected being a bright light that has little to
do with the government - chance sometimes works!
Building and Construction have been losing skilled workers, with
spending having been severely restricted and thereby making the
recession worse than it could have been. Poverty continues to grow as
wages fail to keep up with costs, and the government reduces support
to those in need - which with health can affect nearly all of us
(except those who can afford private insurance or are very wealthy).
In other news, 18 Councils have had their debt ratings reduced, which
will increase the cost of water projects, demonstrating the stupidity
of the government's hospital pass - National still have the mind-set
that says that paying higher interest to give banks more profit to
send overseas is good for the country - no it is only good for bank >shareholders. But most of that profit is yet to come and meanwhile a
lot of work is slowing down, thus making finding skilled workers even
more difficult.
The small improvement in GDP is shared less equally than under the
previous government - poverty (including child poverty) is still
growing, with a significant transfer of wealth to those already
wealthy - including landlords like our PM. Looking after yourself has
new meaning under the current government - they have cut assistance to
the disabled - and of course Shane Jones is keeping himself happy with
plans to hand out money, and Seymour is distracting everyone with
racism, mis-leading proposed laws, and underestimated incompetence
with his now evident near total lack of any business knowledge.
Can they keep the party going until the next election? I suspect not,
but who would want the poisoned chalice of the National Party? Lucky
Luxon and Willis keep their jobs for a few more months with no idea
why or what they are doing . . . so extreme self-interest may be all
that is needed in the National Party . . .

Absolutely - as the Topic says. "Easy does it" - yes let us celebrate
a small positive fluctuation in a key economic indicator that has been >unfortunately low for many years - the reality is that we export far
too much of our earnings to overseas investors, and too many of our
workers and their families are affected by low wages and material
poverty - and higher effective tax rates than the very wealthy. Sadly
the current government is exacerbating those trends, leading to low >productivity - we are going in the wrong direction as a country.

OK so it is pushing it a bit to celebrate the 0.7%, but you have not
shown anything wrong in anything I said.
