Rich - neither did you. You gave no indication on why you thought

Bolger is nothing more than a PM from a long-gone era. Unless you can
bring to the thread some context for your post, I will ignore it.

I note you object to a very slight diversion from the subject (not at all off-topic) and yet you feel that you have the right to go wildly off topic any time you want to, especially when you are wrong.

It is a very short video - listen from 1 minute to 3 minutes and you
will get the gist of what he regards as an important issue for New

At age 90 he does not appear to have the age related issues that are
evident in both Joe Biden and Donald Trump; the opinion he expresses
is shared by many New Zealanders; sadly the current National Party
leader appears to be following the lead of the ACT Party

They didn't last time, they governed for an entitled racist minority. They >>won't next time unless all the current leaders piss off and are replaced with >>traditional Labour leaders virtually no hope of that).

I found a slightly longer written report on the Bolger interview:

"So does Bolger have any advice for Seymour?
“Keep out of the road of the Prime Minister and let the Prime Minister
get on with the job, and just remind himself he is not Prime Minister.
“His risk will be he wants to be Prime Minister...that’s Luxon’s >responsibility.
“Deputy Prime Minister should not be a high-profile role and wasn’t in
my day and shouldn’t be now. It’s a support role.”
Bolger, who led New Zealand through the first big Treaty of Waitangi >settlements in the 1990s, is clearly unimpressed with Seymour and what
he sees as an unnecessary focus on Maori policy.
“We have one party in Government called the Act Party and their leader >Seymour, who seems determined to be anti-Maori, and I’ve no idea what
    their ambition is,” Bolger claimed.
Bolger said he was not sure if the aim was to gain the support of
racists, which he estimated to be about 10% of New Zealanders.
“But he always seems to have a sharp edge when he’s dealing with Maori >issues.
“But I think the Prime Minister, the leader of by far the largest
party, should be much firmer in pushing Seymour back. He shouldn’t
just sit there and take it.
“He should actually speak up and tell him to shut up.” "
What is alleged to have been said is wrong. However I am not interested in an unattributed report.

He identified the issue that has most changed to the detriment of New

He may have expressed an opinion on that matter. As an ex-PM this is

It is said that Bolger and Winston bonded over shots of whiskey back
in 1996. I've always felt Winston would've needed the lion's share of
    the whiskey.

Winston has been a good Foreign Minister, but it has kept him away for
perhaps too long to have the influence he could have had with keeping
his own party MPs in line and helping Luxon be more careful with ACT.
His party has moved away from "New Zealand First" - it has not helped
that one of his MPs would be more comfortable with ACT, but he has
also not been able to stop Shane Jones from trying to sell off New
Zealand to overseas companies - with the distinct appearance of linked political support, although they seem to have at last got their party
finances under better control. He still has some support from the
"Goldcard" days, but there are not enough of them to give the party a
solid natural voter support base - increasingly it is based on
personalities and single issues, and Shane is no longer an obvious or
credible successor, but is also well ahead of the other Caucus
    members.

At a time when ACT and National seem determined to benefit and
increase overseas ownership of NZ Resources, there should be support
for the NZ First sentiment; at present it seems unlikely the party
    will outlast Winston.
