It is always good to gets the views of the public as a whole as we can be
sure of what needs to ne done, and has the Government got it right.

It also shows some further detail. As in 9% of the TPM voters thought it was too linient an 6.2% that it was about right. So that it 15% or about one in
7 of the TMP supporters thought the ruling ws about right or too linient.

It is an article worthwile reading.

It looks like the committee got it about right. Particularly when you take into account that many of those polled would have voted according to political belief rather than justice or logic.

No, the house voted along party lines, and the poll was fairly
similar, and probably based largely on party support.
Which is what I wrote. I note that the TVNZ poll showed an even greater support for the penalty.
    Even the
Speaker, Gerry Brownlee, who called the punishments "very severe" and >"unprecedented" appears to have been told to toe the line.
As I wrote, people following their political bent.

Parliament voted in favour if they belonged to a government party -
given that those parties are less popular now that may not represent
the average opinion of the population.

I suspect in this case some government MPS may have needed to be told
    - they certainly would not have wanted it to be a conscience vote . .

You really shouldn't assume others have your low moral compass.
