From Lawrence D'Oliveiro@21:1/5 to All on Thu Aug 7 09:00:18 2025
So, what do you think of the idea of road-user-charges for all? The
Government is trying to stem the decline in the roading revenue, currently mostly coming from taxes on fuel, by extending the RUC system to all
vehicles, and making the payment system more automated (“E-RUCs”, I guess?). If they want more revenue, then we will end up paying more
    overall.

Dropping the fuel tax entirely would get rid of a lot of the incentive to
    move to alternative power sources.

The Government has said that it wishes to rise more money for better roads
and at the same time get the present system of RUC revamped.

Once again the response to this will be; It is going to cost us more
headines. Not are we willing to pay for better roads.

Not if the RUC rate is high enough on EVs.
