    If Hitchcock felt that Stewart was too old to play a leading man for his "Vertigo" role, then why did he cast Grant in "North..." who was older than Stewart? Also when "Bell, Book and Candle" with Stewart and Novak in the lead roles was released after "

    It wasn't age. Hitch was afraid that Stewart couldn't say the dialog fast enough.

    It wasn't age. Hitch was afraid that Stewart couldn't say the dialog

    I'm reminded of an old Dean Martin roast of Stewart when Rich Little
    drove that point home. Stewart took it in stride though being the
    genuinely nice guy he was.
