• Vance's admonition of Europe

    From Adam H. Kerman@21:1/5 to All on Sat Feb 15 19:57:47 2025
While I was appalled by media summaries of large portions of Vance's
speech in Munich, undermining the belief in the hot threat from Russia
with egregious anti-Right speech suppression at home, I hadn't heard
    Vance's speech.

Now, these are two unrelated issues. In war, hot or cold, let's not
forget that we make alliances with the worst of the worst for
practicality. During WWII, we took advantage of the break between Hitler
and Stalin, and Stalin was temporarily on the side of the Allied powers.

Post Stalin, we took advantage of deteriorated relations between China
and USSR and made an alliance with Mao.

However, hearing the opening remarks of Vance on C-SPAN, he used a series
of criminal cases throughout Europe as bad acts suppressing liberty.

We've discussed some of them right here on Europe.

I have no idea what point Vance was trying to make. Munich was the wrong
place to admonish our allies for illiberal actions.

It was utterly stupid politics and undermined anti-Putin efforts.

However, I'm glad he said some of it to those smug hypocritical
    bastards.

On that note we agree 100%!
