A podcast by a Toronto Police Service minority outreach group has raised
some serious controversy. The Toronto police have a number of outreach
groups to reach out to assorted minority groups in the city and one of
them, staffed by Muslim police officers, has made two rather
controversial assertions:
1. The describing pro-Palestinian demonstrations as being essentially
pro-Hamas demonstrations is a hate crime.
2. Muslims who had not been terribly observant of their religion who saw
these demonstrations frequently reverted to more strict observance of Islam.

Although the police chief has apologized for those remarks and the
podcast expressing these views has been taken down, there are calls for
the resignation of the chief and of mayor Olivia Chow.
