OK, I gave the first few episodes a try.
This is a funny mismatched Buddy cop show much like Private Eyes. Which
should come as no surprise as Jason Priestley is involved.
The good is mostly Vanessa Morgan, who is having fun bouncing all over the walls as the wacky thief. The bad is her cop partner who is pretty much a nothing burger. The ugly is a lot of the production and writing, which is apparently done by people who have never functioned in the real world in
any capacity. Somewhere BTR would be screaming along with me: “that’s not how this works. That’s not how any of this works!“
For instance, at the start as part of the set up, Morgan does an identity
theft scam on an obnoxious rich woman who is literally like a foot taller
and way thinner than her and yet all her clothes fit perfectly (lots and
lots and lots of shots of Morgan’s butt in this show). She then accesses
the rich woman’s safety deposit box at bank with the most lax security on
the planet and the banker actually hands her back her safe deposit key
while she’s in the room with the box open. That’s not how it works. That’s
not how any of it works!
Cop buddy got demoted as we finally find out about episode four because he
was caught with his car trunk full of stolen drugs. So they assigned him to harbor patrol. I am quite sure that’s not how it works.
So of course, they are assigned to work together to fight crime despite everybody in the squad hating them.
Really sloppy production ensues like them coming out to find that his car
has been broken into by somebody smashing in the rear window while the side windows are rolled down.
Week by week we will meet his ex partner, her incarcerated father, his ex fiancé (played by a dead ringer for the girl from blood and treasure, who
is married in real life to tracker). Episode five I think involves a TV
show about vampires.
It’s a throwback to much older shows where he lives on a boat and has a scrawny cat pet while she lives in various mansions week to week that she’s squatting in although she has a butler that moves with her.
They work for a big city police force that apparently patrols a gigantic
area so they get assigned to things like missing person cases, way out of
town in the wine fields.
It’s supposed to be taking place in Maine, but Maine looks suspiciously
like the great seaport of Smallville’s Metropolis, Kansas, with its snowcapped mountains in the distance.
There are already two seasons in the can so if you like it, you don’t have
to worry about it ending too soon
