• What Did You Watch? 2025-03-22 (Saturday)

    From Ian J. Ball@21:1/5 to All on Sun Mar 23 10:08:37 2025
Yesterday I watched... the "Single Black Female" series on Lifetime!!

    I also watched:

    soaps: Thur's ep's.
DOOL - Not much of interest happens in this ep. NuGabi seems
increasingly unhinged about EJ. Then Javi moves Leo into the Hernandez
place, and Gabi almost loses it!! Speaking of unhinged, EJ lashes out at
Kate about telling Johnny about his rape of Sami, but Kate points out EJ
has nobody to blame but himself. Johnny discusses the sitch' with Rafe,
who admits he also knew about the rape. Jada tells Paulina her theory
that EJ held Rafe captive at Kristen's crazy mommy's place (true), and
then goes to bring Kristen's crazy mommy in for questioning, and tells
Kristen that she will have the mom arrested unless they throw EJ under
the bus. When Kristen's crazy mommy tells EJ, he prepares to flee town,
but then it looks like he's going to inject Kristen's crazy mommy with
    the memory erasing drug instead!!
GH - This was pukeworthy: they undo all the good they did with
Laura's character when she (and Anna) shunned Sonny - but in this ep,
Laura buries the hatchet with Sonny, and it's a nauseating love fest...
OTOH, in the "good news" department, Brook Lynn continues to treat Lois
as the enemy (that's cause she is!!). And Chase finally (righteously!)
lays NuNuLulu out for going after Brook Lynn and interfering in their
lives, and threatens to find something to arrest Lulu with if she ever interferes or goes after Brook Lynn again! (Yes!!) Finally, Jason
doesn't stop Anna, who then prevents NuJack Brennan from executing
Valentin - instead, Anna arrests Valentin.

golf - Day 3 at the Valspar Championship in the St. Pete area of
Florida. Outside of Victor Hovland, most of the leaderboard were names I
did not recognize. And when I was watching, most of the leaderboard was
going in the *wrong* direction, losing strokes instead of gaining them!!
At the end, I believe Hovland was still (co-)leader going into the last
    day today.

The UCLA game was the March Madness late game yesterday, so I forgot to
watch it. It's probably for the best, as UCLA ended up losing to
    Tennessee anyway...

    Single Black Female film series!!:

I saw the end of "Single Black Female" "1", just to be reminded what
happened - for example, I had forgotten it was set in Houston(!!). At
the end of this one, after killing a number of people, EVOL!!1! vengeful
Simone (Amber Riley) is pretty clearly dead, having been impaled-stabbed
and about to be burned up in a house fire, while Monica (Raven Goodwin)
rescues her bestie (K. Michelle, credited in this one as "Kimberly
Pate") and her mommy and escapes the fire.

Single Black Female 2: Simone's Revenge - I didn't see all of this
(missed a chunk in the middle), but it wasn't that I had "forgotten" it
    - I had definitely never seen this before.
It preposterously retcons the ending of the original "Single Black
Female", as it's now "3 years later", but Simone didn't die in the fire
    - she somehow escaped, was rescued by a nun(?!), and now has amnesia!!
(despite the fact that she did not suffer a head trauma during the fight
at the end of "Single Black Female"!!) And nobody has figured out that
Simone's not dead! (There's no way this would have escaped Monica's
notice!!) Meanwhile, Monica has moved on to a new job in Seattle, where
her heartless producer boss (Christine Horn) is exploiting her past for ratings. This one ends even more preposterously than it starts - after
having regained her memories, Simone murders a bunch more people, to
frame Monica for the crimes! And everyone except K. Michelle falls for
it! In the end, Simone is reunited with her long-lost daughter (Angel
Pean) - another retcon! as there was no mention of any of this in the
    first film IIRC!

Single Black Female 3: The Final Chapter - The most disappointing one of
the lot. This final installment completely retcons the first two films -
you see, Simone is not an EVOL!!1! crazed homicidal stalker! Now she's a repentant misunderstood tragic "good girl" who is trying to do right by
her daughter (I'm about 100% sure the daughter role was recast for this
film, though I can't check as this flick is still not listed in IMDb -
looks like I will have to try to add it today...). But murders keep
happening around Simone and her daughter! Is Simone still secretly a
crazed killer? Is Monica behind it, trying to frame Simone this time? Is
it the vengeful suspended police detective trying to avenge the brother
that Simone murdered and framed Monica for in SBF2?!... The ending of
this one is off-the-charts preposterous, in my book, and its message of "forgiveness" hits all the wrong notes! Bah! And Puh-TUIE!!

There were a lot of them. Every prior M appeared in a portrait
somewhere in MI-6 HQ at points in the movie is one example.

Series?!? I think I have the first one sitting on the DVR unwatched.
But if there are several, maybe I recorded one of the sequels thinking
it was the first one. Now am I going to have to record the others
before I can watch the first one?

    +1.

This is a multi-day catch up. Over the past week I watched:

Cobra Kai (Netflix) "Underdogs" - Season 6, episode 4 – The new combined Cobra Kai Miyagi-Do dojo have to select 6 students to compete in the big tournament and to make the selection process fair Daniel and Johnny aree
to bring in Mike Barnes (Sean Kanan), the hired goon from Karate Kid to
select the top six. I love how this show keeps bringing back the
characters from the movie. Johnny and Mike don’t get along, leading to
the two of them having a gratuitous fight. Of course, this is Cobra
Kai, and every episode has at least two gratuitous fights. Not that I’m complaining.

Daredevil: Born Again (Disney+) - "Sic Semper Systema" - Unless I'm
mistaken, 4 episode in, and still no Daredevil. But it looks like he
might finally show up next episode. At least they are doubling down on
the show being in the MCU. "Could it have been a skrull?" I was not
    expecting to hear that line!

Severance (AppleTV+) - "Cold Harbor" - The Sense shattering season 2
finale. I'm not even going to try and recap this episode! Stuff
happened! And almost as if there was a gun to the writer's heads, they actually gave some answers. Is the show even the slightest bit clearer
as a result of those answers? NO!!

    Law & Order - "Folk Hero" - Season 24, episode 16 - In a story idea that
was completely originally and definitely not ripped from any headlines,
the police chase after a man who shot an insurance executive only to
find that the general public support what he did. This becomes a
problem when the judge (Benito Martinez) and jury also appear
sympathetic to man. The judge did everything except out right say the insurance exec had it coming. LOL

Law & Order: SVU - "Let Me Bring Pardon" - Season 26, episode 16. This
was a sequel to a previous episode where a woman was left in a coma. In
this one she turns up pregnant and SVU is determined to step over any
and everyone including the woman's family, to find out who did it. Why
exactly couldn't they have just waited until after the baby was born to
    take a DNA test then?

Penn & Teller: Fool Us - "House of Cards" - This was a particularly good episode with every trick being a card trick. The second magician,
Nicholas Ribs, did some of the best close up magic I've ever seen.

Reacher (Amazon) - "ATM" - Season 2, episode 1. I know better than to
start watching a new streaming show when I have others I haven't
finished yet, but I keep seeing "Reacher" this and "Reacher" that, so I
broke down and started season 2. First up, Reacher is brought in by an
old friend and they discover their team is being hunted. So far the
show is off to a good start. At least now when I finish season 2, I
won't have to wait a year to watch season 3.

Snow White (theatrical) - New live action version of Disney's 1937
animated classic. Rachel Zegler stars as Snow White, a young princess
who is raised under the thumb of her evil stepmother, "Gal Gadot." When Zegler's beauty overshadows the Evil Queen, the Queen orders her
huntsman to take Snow White into the forest and rip out her heart. The huntsman has a change of heart and with the help of some CGI friends,
Snow White returns to reclaim her kingdom and save the day. This felt
closer to the 2012 Kristen Stewart version than the 1937 animated
version. The only thing missing was Gal Gadot never turned into a
T-1000 Terminator, although she did come very close at one point in the
movie. Going in I saw some complaints about Gal Gadot's performance,
but I didn't notice anything particularly bad about it. She was just
speaking in her natural Israeli accent, which I think, is the same
accent she used for Wonder Woman, so I really don't see the problem.
Otherwise, the movie was just OK. Then again, I've never been a
particular fan of Disney's Snow White anyway. As far as the classic
Disney animated films go, I prefer "Pinocchio."

I loved the M portraits. Of course don't even begin to ask about this
Bond being a reboot! After all, we didn't ask about Judi Dench
returning, so why ask about this. :-)

    Hahahahahahaha!

That's the most howl-worthy part of this production: that Gal Gadot would be jealous of Zegler's looks.
