• [OT] Canadian election called for April 28

From Rhino@21:1/5 to All on Sun Mar 23 13:21:59 2025
Our brand new Prime Minister, Mark Carney, has called a federal election
for April 28, just 5 weeks away.

Canadians have been hungering for an election for the last couple of
years since they finally got sick of Trudeau. We had very much hoped to
replace Trudeau and his Liberals with Pierre Poilievre and his
Conservatives. The polls practically guaranteed it.

Then Trump came along with his tariffs and his talk about us becoming
the 51st state and the whole political calculus got turned upside down.
Instead of being about turfing out the "progressive/woke" Liberals, our election is going to be about Trump and what he threatens to do to our
economy. Somehow, a significant proportion of the electorate seems to
think the horrible Liberal Party is once again credible even though it
really just put some lipstick on the pig by replacing Trudeau with an
even woker Mark Carney and doing a cabinet shuffle.

I truly fear for this country if the Liberals win another mandate. There
was still a chance of resurrecting this country along sensible lines if
the Conservatives won but if Carney wins, we are going to be an economic
basket case. He's a fanatic believer in Net Zero and will
de-industrialize the country in the name of that goal.

A 20-25% lead in the polls less than 6 months before an election is
fairly decisive in most countries and I don't think you can pin that
    on Poilievre.

I hadn't heard about the Net Zero part - can you give links?
