• What Did You Watch? 2025-04-01 (Tuesday)

From Ubiquitous@21:1/5 to All on Wed Apr 2 04:30:41 2025
    I watched:

    INVITATION TO LOVE:
Jade, Emerald's twin sister, shows up, much to Chet's dismay.

    EXPOSÉ:
A duo of strippers/detectives fight crime with the help of their club-owner/mentor (played by Billy Dee Williams). This week, they
almost catch up their nemisis, The Cobra, but it's like he's always one
    step ahead of them!

    SEEIN' DOUBLE:
The lamest and lowest budget Patty Duke Show rip-off I have ever seen!
Starring Bob Newhart as the father of identical twin daughters whose
mother drowned in a boating accident. This week, Judy thinks the father
is going to die after misunderstanding him stating he is going to dye
    his hair.

    THE TOM CRUISE SHOW

    CHEERS:
Sam is alarmed to discover Cheers has become a gay bar.

    HOGAN'S HEROES:
A new candid reality show about a sandwhich shop run by a former
    professional wrestler.

    F-TROOP:
"Hicowie Blanket Bingo". Tucker and Agarn plot to sell some old blankets
to the Hikowie, not realizing the previous owners had smallpox.

I watched a couple of those, one had Vincent Price as a vampire!

    What did you watch?

    Hey, thanks for asking!

After listening to a podcast about the making of TARZAN AND THE VALLEY OF
GOLD I watched a bunch of miscellaneous Tarzan stuff.

    What did you watch?

Not much, as I did some work in the evening, and also played my video
game (though I may be coming to a standstill on that one...). So all I
    got through was GH:

soaps: GH - Mon's and Tue's ep. Mon's ep was all about the fallout of Kristina's cutting the brake lines causing a significant car accident
for Ric and Lizzie - Ric is, like, near death, and needs to be taken in
to surgery, while Lizzie is pretty banged up. And Kristina stupidly
pretty much "confesses" to Lucky, who will probably want her head if
something happens to Lizzie. Meanwhile, Emma for once doesn't sound like
a complete idiot as she explains to gramma Anna why she is so wrapped up
in the Quartermaine crypt kerfuffle. But it's all for naught! - at the
end, Anna has to arrest Emma anyway, as she has outstanding (bench?)
warrants that Emma didn't tell anybody about! Ha!...
Tue's ep felt like a complete gear shift, which really ticked me
off. Tue's ep was the "62nd anniversary" episode of GH, and it was an incredibly-awkward "standalone" episode, which completely ignored the
events of Mon's episode - no follow up on Ric's surgery and him being
near death, no follow up on Emma going to jail. In fact, characters
involved in both of those storylines show up in this "anniversary"
episode, and act like nothing major has happened, and instead talk about
some of the now-dead former characters. And, meanwhile, we get a whole
subplot with Lucy pitching the annual Nurse's Ball to EVOL! Jenz Sidwell
(Carlo Rota) who agrees to bankroll the whole thing! Bah!!

    I watched:

Daredevil: Born Again (Disney+) - "Art for Art's Sake" - Daredevil is
back. And he thinks he's the Punisher or maybe Reacher. I don't recall Daredevil being this violent when it was on Netflix, but now that it's a
Disney show, I guess they show all the blood and gore. ;-)

    HOGAN'S HEROES:
A new candid reality show about a sandwhich shop run by a former
    professional wrestler.

I was going to ask if it's even legal to give a new show the exact title
of an old show while being completely different but then I remembered
the new Matlock so I suppose it *is* legal.

I would be seriously pissed off if I tuned in that show, expecting to
see Hogan vs. Klink, and got a reality show about sandwiches.

    Night Court S03E14

Abby hangs out with Jake's mom - who is showcasing her new implants - in
the hope that Abby and Jake might get back together. Julianna receives
an inheritance that she promptly gives away, not realizing that it is
worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

    Will Trent S03E12

Will is having major difficulties coping with the kid he killed by
accident in the previous episode. He's put on desk duty but tries to
stay active with a new case of apparent strangers winding up in a truck
that hit a tree. He and the other detectives figure out how the victims
are connected and Will goes undercover in a cult despite his status.
Angie's relationship with the doctor continues and becomes public.

    The Rookie S07E12

Nolan is assigned a new rookie to replace the lying liar. The new rookie
looks great on paper but is anything but on the streets. Nolan
investigates to understand the discrepancy. Lucy and Tim are back
together but apparently only for April Fool's Day. A civilian employee
causes havoc by posting April Fool's pranks on the LAPD social media
with each prank causing more trouble than the last.

What does that even mean? Who are you discouraging from jumping and what

Use of a prior title may be challenged on the basis of trademark
infringement but never on the basis of copyright infringement.

but then I remembered the new Matlock so I suppose it *is* legal.

The current Matlock tv series is produced on some sort of licensing or
other contractual basis, even though none of the copyright material of
the original show has been used. It's absurd that they would pay a
licensing fee but there is no infringement to allege.

I liked this episode, or at least it rose well above mediocre.

At least till we got to Will, absolutely not in his right mind, going undercover.

You're assuming the new MATLOCK just used the name without bothering to get permission. I'd be very surprised if the studio's lawyers allowed that to happen. They probably tossed some money at the original show's rights holders in order to use the name with no worries about future lawsuits. I have no idea if the sandwich shop show did this or not, but the MATLOCK people almost certainly did.
