• China retaliating against Trump by reducing number of Hollywood movies

From Rhino@21:1/5 to All on Fri Apr 11 15:28:15 2025
China says it is going to get fewer Hollywood movies due to Trump's tariffs.

    https://www.reuters.com/business/media-telecom/beijing-bites-back-us-tariffs-by-curbing-hollywood-imports-2025-04-10/

The article shows that this is as close to an empty threat as it gets:
China already obtains only a handful of Hollywood films each year.
Apparently, Chinese audiences have come to prefer Chinese-made films in
    recent years.

Hollywood movies to be distributed in China are subject to strict
censorship. On the other hand, I've personally had little motive to see
recent movies in years. If I think of it, I borrow something from the
library. There's so little new to watch on HBO or Showtime.

Exactly. Hollywood is putting out such a large percentage of crap now
that I'm at a loss to see how China is missing out on much by reducing
its intake of Hollywood films. Maybe they're hoping the reliably leftist Hollywood crowd will see this (minor) assault on their paycheques as
sufficient motivation to condemn Trump for depriving the Chinese of
their product. Mind you, it's not like the leftists need a lot of
    motivation to condemn Trump.
