• The Children Will Lead

I just rewatched this episode of the original Star Trek and was struck
by how it resonated with what we see on some college campuses these
days; the only difference was the age of the children involved.

In both the Star Trek episode and real life, children seem to be getting seduced into following an evil force - the Gorgon or Hamas - by someone
older who means to raise an army of followers and then wreak death and destruction on those who oppose them. The college protest leaders are
calling for a global intifada, which is surely going to be a bloody
affair just as the Gorgon proposed to inflict on the people of Marcus 12
who resisted the children. Just as the children in the episode were
indifferent to the death of their parents, the older children on the
campuses are indifferent to the 1200+ Israelis who were murdered on Oct
    7 2023.

Kirk finally helped free the children from their indoctrination by
showing them happy times with their parents and then the parents graves.
Maybe we need to try that with the pro-Hamas crowd: show them the
documentaries about the young people massacred at the Nova Music
Festival or the people of all ages killed in their kibbutzes near Gaza.
I wonder if that would help them find their humanity again?

My obligatory mention that it wasn't "just" Israelis or Jews
(not that Hamas makes any distinction) but plenty of unrelated
third parties, including Indians, Cambodians, etc. (Also quite
a few Americans who, afaik, were Jewish).

And Hamas is still imprisoning, starving, raping and torturing,
and oh yes, killing these people.

Which emphasizes the eveil of Hamas, their Fellow Travelers
and Useful Idiots, their supporters, and cheerleaders.

Alas the answer is ... mostly not ....

There were some Canadian-born people there too. You're right, I over-generalized.

Indeed. MOST of the remaining hostages are widely believed to be dead so
we're mostly waiting on bodies rather than living people. But even the
dead give Hamas "leverage" in their sick games because they know that
the families of their hostages value getting them back, alive OR dead.

    No question about that!

I strongly suspect you're right, alas.
