• Gas-Powered Vehicles Saved in California

From BTR1701@21:1/5 to All on Thu May 22 20:49:31 2025
Today the Senate revoked California’s EPA waiver which allows them to impose stricter air quality regulations than the federal government. This basically torpedoes Gavvy Newsom's 2035 ban on gas-powered vehicles. He's spittin' mad and is vowing to sue. I have no idea on what basis he plans to sue. “California has a right, alone among all the states, to be exempt from federal
regulations.” Doesn’t sound like a winning case to me.

I think we have a similar ban here, also set for 2035. The new PM, is a
real eco-Nazi so I'm going to be shocked if he repeals it. The Liberal
Party in this country continues to be a clown show, even after replacing
    the head clown....

The X-Twitters is full of hysterical leftists posting news items like the one above and asking Trump voters, "Is this what you voted for?" with the implication that most of them wouldn't have voted for Trump if they knew he would do this.

In almost every instance, I reply with "Yes, absolutely, and I'd vote for it again." Drives them nuts.

Trump just got US credit downgraded, which means even higher interest on
the national debt. Plus, at his urging, Congress will add $3.8 trillion
to the national debt. Plus, Trump's trade insanity is about to trigger a worldwide recession.

Did Trump voters vote for that?

“California has a right, alone among all the states, to be exempt from
    federal
regulations.” Doesn’t sound like a winning case to me.

    And California is suing.

Yes, I pointed that out. This will be the 15th lawsuit AG Bonta has filed against Trump since January. They seem to be really proud of all the tax money they're wasting filing one lawsuit after another over things that are
perfectly legitimate even if California Democrats don't like them. Like suing Trump for cracking down on illegal border crossings. I mean, ?!?!?! Even if you're nuts and you believe the U.S. should have no borders and people should be able to flood into the country at will, you can't go into court and argue that Trump has no authority to enforce the border and expect to win, so I have no idea what you hope to gain by suing over it other than wasting millions of dollars of tax money.

I have no idea what valid cause of action they think they have over the EPA waiver. It's well-established that regulating air quality is the federal government's jurisdiction. The fact that California needed an exemption to do what it's been doing in the first place is evidence that even California recognized that the federal government has jurisdiction over air quality. They seem to be arguing that once the federal government granted the exemption, it could never revoke it or cancel it and take its legitimate jurisdiction back, which is nonsense.

Every Winnipegger knows that - it's well covered in winter weather
    reports.

I was once in the Winnipeg public library on January where I was in
the public reading room (which is a great room including a very long
picture window) and reading a book on the German/Soviet campaign of
1941 that had an interesting feature - on the top corner of every page
had a date and temperature showing the temperature around Moscow
    during the campaign.

I looked out the window and said "Hmmm. It's colder than that on the
    opposite side of that window!"

(In those days any trip to Winnipeg airport any time other than
mid-winter meant you would see 100-200 German soldiers waiting for the
bus that would take them to CFB Shilo near Brandon, MB about 60 miles
W of Winnipeg for tank training - the point being Brandon is very flat
and has large areas of farmland in addition to the army base. The
Germans liked it a lot for tank training since there were far fewer
people than would have been in the same area in Germany)

Heh. I remember in the 80's the distance between towns in Germany was described as "one tactical nuke apart". Meaning that if you dropped a
