• [OT] Why fentanyl is so dangerous

From Rhino@21:1/5 to All on Fri May 23 17:09:55 2025
We've all heard the warnings about fentanyl and heard about the
staggering numbers it has killed but this video explains why fentanyl -
and indeed all opiods - need to be avoided. In a nutshell, the first
high you get from an opiod is a life-changing event that you
desperately, desperately want to re-create BUT you inevitably fail to
recapture it because subsequent highs are never as good. However, the
opiods are so addictive that you'll suffer incredible withdrawal
symptoms if you try to resist your next use of opiods, especially fentanyl.

There are a LOT of comments below the video reinforcing the message in
this video and a great many of them praised the video for being the best explanation they'd ever seen for why fentanyl is so seductive but also
    deadly.

I remember when I was recovering from surgery for a burst appendix and hitting that button for a dose of morphine when the pain got to be too much. I
suddenly understood why people got addicted to drugs. It was also why I mostly gritted through the pain as much as I could and avoided using the pain-killer as much a possible.

Probably just my imagination, but some of that video gave me the vibes
of a commercial for heroin. ("...the best feeling you ever felt.")

Fooey! Shawn, your link is the exact one I'd meant to post but instead I
posted the clip from This is the Law again.

I've never been in a situation where I needed anything stronger than
aspirin but I live in fear that I will one day have some kind of
accident or illness that necessitates some serious pain relief. I will
want to resist taking them under any circumstances but I feel sure that
if the pain is really bad, I'll clamour for relief and the doctor will
give it to me. According to the video, it's EXTREMELY hard to kick
opiods because you're in incredible pain if you DON'T take them when you
get a craving. I don't know if I'd be strong enough to kick it then.

The oral surgeon's assistant got pissed at me when I refused to sign the
opioid consent form. I needed two teeth extracted. The surgeon told me
to take two extra-strength over-the-counter pain killers.

I agree with you. Why find out you might get addicted?

The damn stuff doesn't kill pain anyway. It distracts you by forcing
your brain to release lots of dopamine. That's why it makes you feel
    good.

BUT you inevitably fail to recapture it because subsequent highs
    are never as good.

Yeah. It's fucking dangerous for that reason. You get so damn desperate.

    . . .
