Fringe S4E01 'Neither Here Nor There'

IMDb sez: Just one week after Peter Bishop saved the day and was then
wiped from existence, the truce between the two worlds remains intact
and the two sides are forced to work together. Lincoln Lee joins the
Fringe team as they investigate a shapeshifter case that is very
    personal to him.
(No one remembers that guy from Dawson's Creek!)

The glyphs for this episode spell out: APPEAR

The opening credits background are yellow/amber-ish for this alternate
    timeline created by Peter's disappearance.
(The Fringe Wiki calls this the "Alternate Timeline". There
    are/were/will be apparently 4 timelines. https://fringe.fandom.com/wiki/Timelines )
This season takes place in an alternate time line. Agent Astrid
Farnsworth's hairstyle is very similar to how it looked in Season 1.

As the two Olivias finish their conversation toward the beginning, if
you watch closely, you can quickly see Peter's image flicker in the
background as Earth 1 Olivia turns away from the table.

Lincoln Lee: I have a friend in New York Times who would love to know
that there is a division of the FBI operating out of Harvard with a man
who can make dead birds fly.
Dr. Walter Bishop: If you really want a story, you should look under the
    dome. I'm growing an ear.

Dr. Walter Bishop: All I do know is that this tech isn't from here.
Lincoln Lee: Not from here? You mean like, China?
    Olivia Dunham: No. Not China.

Dr. Walter Bishop: [observing remotely] Rigidity indicates premature
rigor mortis. I need to check her anus.
    [to Astrid]
Dr. Walter Bishop: Have that large lady there help you lift her.
(The Minions of Mad Scientists always get the worse jobs.)

    What Did You Watch?

I scrolled through my DVR looking for something, anything, to watch
    until I settled on:

Problemista (HBO) 2023 comedy written, produced, directed by and Julio
Toerres, as a young immigrant from El Salvador who wants to work at
Hasbro as a toy designer. But until Hasbro accepts his application, he
works at a shady cryogenic suspension company. How shady is this place?
The cryotubes with the frozen remains are literally plugged into a
wall outlet to keep refrigerated. Julio gets fired after accidentally unplugging one of the corpses. RZA played the unplugged dead guy when
he was alive. And Tilda Swinton plays RZA's beyond eccentric widow, who
hires Julio to do odd jobs for her after he's fired. The cryogenic
suspension company was Julio's sponsor. And in order to remain in the
country Julio has to have a job. But the way the immigration system
works, Julio can't actually be paid any money at a job until the
immigration status is cleared up, and clearing up the immigration status
costs several thousand dollars, which he doesn't have, and can't earn
since he's not allowed to legally work. I should mention this is an
"A24" movie and it is one of the most "A24", "A24" movies ever made. If
you didn't know it was an "A24" movie, you'd guess it had to be, just by
how weird and surreal it is. There's a whole lot more A24 weirdness in
this movie that I didn't even touch on!!! If you like weird A24 movies,
then this is definitely one for you. I'll give it this, it held my
    interest.

Johnny Dangersly (Cinemax) - I scoured my DVR and found this one that's
been sitting there since 2023. This is 1984 comedy directed by Amy
Heckerling, and starring Michael Keaton as "Johnny Dangerously," a 1930s mobster who gets into wacky criminal adventures. Peter Boyle also stars
as Johnny's crime boss. Marilu Henner plays Johnny's girlfriend. Danny
DeVito plays a corrupt DA. Joe Piscopo plays another crook (if you saw
the movie you know his catchphrase!), and Griffin Dunne plays Johnny's
younger brother, who Johnny put through law school only for the brother
to become a DA who then goes after Johnny. There are several more
celebrity cameos. This is one of those movies I watched all the time
when I was a kid, but I haven't seen this since the mid 80s. After all
of these years I still remembered a couple of the gags, but the overall
movie was just OK. It was a lot funnier when I was 8 years old seeing
    Mr. Mom play a gangster.

I have no recollection of this movie but it's possible I saw it.

I've seen no more than bits and pieces of it, and that would have been
    years ago.

    What Did You Watch?

Started trying to get some work done yesterday (only somewhat
successful!), but I did manage to get through some things on TeeVee:

    soaps: Mon's ep's.
DOOL - This was 100% (Fake!)John and Bo stuff, so I didn't find it
very interesting. On the (Fake!)John front, most of the people who had
come back for this weren't even in this episode! In the end, when
(Fake!)John dies, only Marlena is there! Meanwhile, Bo almost dies, but
is "kicked out of limbo" by his dead son, and so awakes from his coma at
    the end... Bah!
DOOL - Good for Brook Lynn! - Her wretched granny (Lois's mom) tries
to browbeat Brook Lynn into "forgiveness" for Lois (and hersef) but,
Gawd bless her! Brook Lynn sticks to her guns and rejects both Lois and
the granny. Rocco finds out that Gio is his brother, asking Lulu about
it, just as Dante shows up - so Lulu and Dante try to explain to Rocco
what happened (and Lulu's part in it). Gio goes to Sonny to find out
more about what happened - Gio tells Sonny that he is in no mood to
forge a "relationship" with Dante. In the end, Gio shows up as Brook
Lynn rejects Lois and the granny. Meanwhile, Lucky tells Lizzie that
Kristina was the one behind the car accident. And Laura is beginning to
suspect that Alexis is up to funky stuff with the Casadine trust, and
the other lawyer dude pretty much knows it.

    School Spirits (Pee+) - Ep's #2.1 & 2.2.
Well, that didn't take long - they resolve the "Simon thinks
Maddie's 'ghost' is an insane hallucination" plotline from the season #1
    finale all within episode #2.1.
Much of season #2 seems to be following up on the ghost who hijacked Maddie's body - Janet Hamilton (Jess Gabor) - and gives background on her.
Meanwhile, Xavier (Spencer Macpherson), dies for a few seconds in
the hospital and sees the "ghost world", before he is revived. So when
Simon starts trying to explain that Maddie's body has been "hijacked" by
a "ghost", Xavier is the only one who believes it.
Simon starts trying to track down Janet-in-Maddie's-body, but he and
Xavier discover her old farm house just as she burns it down.
Maddie and the ghosts try to track down Mr. Martin who has seemingly disappeared after Maddie confronted him in the season finale. What is
clear is that both Mr. Martin and Janet know more about the "ghost
    world" than they've letting on.
I was amazed that Alison Thornton (as Claire's cheerleader main minion/frenemy) actually showed up in episode #2.2. - I figured that
Thornton had gotten too big for a supporting role like this between
seasons, so I was not expecting to see her in season #2.

Well this may be where your remembered retcon of the Observers may be.
The episode did involve September following an order to remove the last
bits of Peter so the Observers' plan(s) could continue or something.
(September chickened out at the end and didn't double erase Peter.) But
if so I don't think it would qualify as a retcon, just a continuation of something that hadn't been blatantly spelled out before.

Haven't reached that point yet and the Fringe wiki does cover that.
Again I don't think it is a retcon. We have NEVER known what the
Observers' plans are and everything I've seen so far would be consistent
with the ones we've seen being an advance party setting your spoiler up.
It doesn't change anything already established.
