Trump went after UPenn for putting a white dude, not competitive in
men's swimming, on the women's swim team for the 2021-2022 college
season after she transitioned to a woman. She took a year off from
competition while taking hormone therapy. This complied with NCAA rules
in effect at the time.
Extorted with the loss of $75 million in federal funding, UPenn is
really and truly sorry and has given its heartfelt apology to the women
who were student athletes at UPenn who competed against him, er, her.
Riley Gaines, who had been a nationally-ranked swimmer (born female,
competing as female, what a novelty) since high school and swam for
University of Kentucky, began to speak out against the NCAA using her
fame within the swimming community, and because the women student
athletes at UPenn were routinely threated by the school administration
to be kicked out of athletics if they complained.
Lia Catherine Thomas, born William, would change in the women's locker
room and would harass the actual women athletes while naked. Nothing was
said about whether UPenn apologized for failing to take steps to protect
women athletes from sexual harassment.
UPenn altered the record book so that Thomas's award-winning times are
no longer listed as award winning, although the times and ranking are
still there with an asterisk referring to the period in which she was
allowed to compete as a woman.
I think that's wrong. The records should have stood as that would have
further highlighted the scandal and the harm that was done to the other athletes who were actual women and not just pretending.
Don't rewrite history. This period of time needs to be faced head on.
