• The Assassin

From Rhino@21:1/5 to All on Fri Jul 25 12:16:37 2025
Freddie Highmore, best known for The Good Doctor (and Bates Motel before
that) is back in the new Amazon series, The Assassin. Also starring is
Keeley Hawes, who I remember from The Durrells in Corfu (she played the mother), playing Julie, a long-time assassin, who always kept her career
a secret from her son, Edward, played by Highmore.

Julie has been living in retirement in Greece for some time when she
gets a visit from Edward, a visit that coincides with a call from her
handler to take on one last job. She reluctantly agrees but then gets
cold feet when she realizes that her handler doesn't seem quite as she remembered him. She determines that it is someone else pretending to be
her handler and when he realizes the jig is up, sends forth people to
kill her. She and Edward are forced to flee.

That's the gist of the 1st episode, which I just watched. There are five
more episodes. I am not sure if this is planned to be a complete story
or just the first season of an ongoing series but if you like an action
story with at least a couple of familiar faces, you should find The
    Assassin worth your time.

alas no Jill Ireland, Jan Gan Boyd (!!!!), or, for
    that matter, Charles Bronson.

(If you haven't seen the film I'm ref'ing, Jan Boyd would
    even have Ian drooling...

It's odd that the motel had so many vacancies. Must be poor marketing.
