Those two brothers explaining the story is the funniest thing I?ve ever
seen. Shout out to those guys. They should get their own podcast.

Once they came forward, it was over for Smollett. I'm sure he still has

    Sure he can.

He was a major character on Empire, but it was drawing to a close.

For someone like this, it was the height of his career. Part of a main
cast or recurring character is a significantly better career than the
    vast majority of actors.

If I had to guess, I'd guess that he thought he could kill two birds
with one stone: highlight all the evil racists who are surely swarming >everywhere, and also boost his career.

He was resentful and entertained his delusions. There is no help for
someone like this. He was his own worst enemy.

    . . .

This was a major investigation at the time.

I remember how furious the police chief sounded when charges were
dropped. Also that Kamala Harris was involved for some reason -- that
even spawned a rumor that she's his aunt, though she isn't.

Kamala was a complete unknown on the national stage and wasn't
mentioned. You are conflating two other issues. One of Michelle Obama's
former staffers called Kim Foxx, the state's attorney (county
prosecutor), to emphasize the racial allegations, and a police officer
started a malicious rumor that Smollett and Fox were related. That's
what led to a top Foxx aid, her ethics officer, advising Foxx to recuse herself. Foxx announced the recusal in the media, then failed to recuse herself, which led to all other shenanigans. Then Biden nominated the
ethics officer as federal judge, but due to unrelated shenanigans in the Senate, she wasn't confirmed.

Thing is, nobody in Chicago ever believed Smollett which is why there
was never an outcry from black voters about this.

She was involved. She tweeted very vigorously in support of him, which
(along with her last name) is what spawned the rumor that she was his
aunt. She's the source of the "modern-day lynching" line which was
    repeated so often.

Even when he was caught, she insisted the real tragedy was that
resources were being taken away from all the *real* racist attacks she >believes are happening.

Then I put it completely out of mind. Sounds like she latched on to this
to support her own ambitions and it blew up in her face. I sure don't
recall the rumor about her being his aunt.
